Kristen Fahrzes supports refugee rights

Christiane Fehrs, president of the German Protestant Church Council, supported the rights of refugees in her speech.

Christian Fehrs, president of the Protestant Church Council in Germany, spoke yesterday, Sunday, November 10, in the city of Würzburg, where the annual Protestant Church Assembly was held.

The main theme of this year's conference at the Presbyterian Church Assembly is "Flight, Migration and Human Rights," which runs until Wednesday, November 13.

In his speech at the annual assembly, the head of the Protestant Church Council said that the German people should not see refugees as a public threat: "The political discussions about asylum are centered on deportation and preventing the entry of refugees, and that is very dangerous. We are talking about people, not numbers."

Kristen also added in response to the results of the US election and the political crisis in Germany: "The world is shaking and many people feel more insecure and afraid. Democracy grows on the basis of stable institutions, I hope that Germany will achieve political stability."

Josef Schuster, president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, also spoke at the forum. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of the "fundamental right to asylum" for people facing political persecution.

"Every person, no matter where they come from, has human dignity," said Anna-Nicole Heinrich, president of the church council. "This is often overlooked in heated discussions about deportations and restrictions on the entry of migrants. As churches, we will continue to support the weak and defend the human rights of refugees."
