Israel attacks Syrian air defense positions in Damascus suburbs

Israel says it has targeted Syrian air defense positions near Damascus. Israel says the attack was in response to Syrian anti-aircraft missile fire.
After attacking targets near Damascus, Israel also attacked Syrian air defense systems in the area.
According to AFP, a statement issued by the Israeli army on the matter said that the attack was carried out in response to anti-aircraft missiles fired from Syria.
According to the announcement, in this operation, which took place on the evening of Wednesday, February 9 (February 20), the Israeli armed forces targeted several surface-to-air missile firing sites in Syria, including radar and missile launchers.
Israeli media wrote that Syrian air defenses were activated after Israel attacked positions "near Damascus."
SANA, the Syrian state news agency, reported, citing statements from military circles, that Israeli missile attacks on Syria were carried out from the "route" of the Golan Heights.
According to SANA, one Syrian soldier was killed and five others were wounded in these attacks.
"Our air defenses confronted the enemy missiles and destroyed several of them," SANA said.
Israel has also said that Syrian anti-aircraft missiles exploded in the sky.
Since the start of the Syrian civil war in 2011, Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes on Syrian territory, targeting positions of the Syrian government and its allies, Iranian-backed forces, and Lebanese Hezbollah militias.
Israel has in most cases said that these attacks were a response to actions carried out from Syrian soil against the country.
