Suicide leads to death of a death row inmate in Qezl-e-Hesar Prison

On Saturday, July 8, a prisoner sentenced to death in solitary confinement in Karaj's Qezel Hesar Prison committed suicide by taking pills. The prisoner had been transferred to the solitary confinement cell of the prison for unknown reasons on the morning of the incident.

According to HRANA News Agency, the news agency of the Human Rights Activists in Iran, on Saturday, July 8, 1402, a prisoner sentenced to death in Hall 3, Unit 2 of Qezel Hesar Prison in Karaj committed suicide by taking pills and died.

HRANA has confirmed the identity of this prisoner as Masoud Khairabadi.

This prisoner was sentenced to death by the judicial authorities for drug crimes. According to sources close to the prisoner, he was part of the security guards of the prison where he was held during his time in prison.

For unknown reasons, the prisoner was transferred to the closed ward (solitary cells) of Unit 2 of Qezl-e-Hazar Prison at 10 a.m. on Saturday by order of the prison's disciplinary council. At 4 p.m. that same day, his lifeless body was found by prison officials.

HRANA had previously reported on the problems of prisoners held in Unit 2 of Qezel Hesar Prison in Karaj. Prisoners held in this unit face many problems, including high population density, lack of ventilation and cooling systems, and lack of medical care.
