Tehran Revolutionary Court Sentences Seven Political Activists to Imprisonment

Reports indicate that Branch 29 of Tehran's Revolutionary Court has sentenced seven political activists to prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of the Human Rights Activists in Iran, Farangis Mazloum, the mother of Soheil Arabi, “has been sentenced to six years in prison, Hani Yazerlou and her son Hood Yazerlou have each been sentenced to one year in prison, Mohammad Vali Gholamnejad, Sedighe Moradi and Mehdi Khavas Sefat, and Zahra Akbarinejad Darcheh have each been sentenced to 95 days in prison.”

According to this report, Hassan Attarzadeh, another defendant in the case, has also been acquitted of the charges.

HRANA says that the Tehran Revolutionary Court has issued a verdict in absentia for Farangis Mazloum.

If Ms. Mazloum's verdict is finalised by the Court of Appeal, she will be sentenced to five years in prison, in accordance with Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code.

Soheil Arabi was arrested by the Revolutionary Guards in 2013 for posting on his Facebook page and was initially sentenced to death on charges of "insulting the Prophet." He was then sentenced in a court for his writings to seven and a half years in prison, "two years of religious investigation to prove remorse," and "a two-year travel ban."
