Iran News

In the past two days, 6 Kolbars have been killed and injured by Iranian border forces.

Human rights media reports indicate that during Sunday and Monday, one kolbar was killed by direct fire from Iranian border forces and five others were injured.

According to these reports, yesterday, Ebrahim Soleimanzadeh, a 37-year-old kolbar from a village in the same area, was killed "following direct fire from military forces in the border areas of Sardasht." Also, on Sunday, five kolbars were injured "in the border areas of Nosud" by border guards. According to this report, the kolbars were shot "without prior warning" and were targeted with shotgun pellets.

The human rights organization Hengaw, which covers news about human rights violations in the Kurdish regions of Iran, had previously reported that during the past year, 52 Kurdish kolbars were shot and killed by border guards, 4 of whom were under the age of 18.

According to the report, during this period, 163 Kolbars were also injured during border force shootings, and out of a total of 140 shootings that resulted in the death or killing of Kolbars, 134 were carried out by Iranian armed forces and 6 were carried out by Turkish and Iraqi armed forces.

The situation of Kolbars in the Islamic Republic of Iran has become a human rights problem over the past years.

Iranian government officials consider kolbari a form of smuggling, but many critics and activists, citing poverty, widespread unemployment, and existing inequalities, describe kolbari as the only way for a group of citizens to "survive."

The Kolbari organizing plan was announced in the Islamic Consultative Assembly in late April of last year, but no news has been released about its review and approval yet.
