Iran's "ten thousand medical staff" to be vaccinated in first phase of general vaccination

The spokesperson for the National Headquarters for Combating Corona in Iran announced on Tuesday, February 11, that in the first phase of mass vaccination in the country, about 10,000 medical staff in 635 hospitals will be vaccinated.
In an interview with Iran's state-run television news network, Alireza Raisi added that the people selected for the first phase of vaccination have two characteristics: both their coronavirus test results have been negative in the past six months and they are providing services in the ICU.
He noted that the medical staff does not only mean nurses, but includes all people working in the ICU services department.
The implementation of the general vaccination plan in Iran against the coronavirus began on Tuesday at Imam Khomeini Hospital in Tehran.
The spokesperson for the National Coronavirus Task Force promised on the same day: "By the end of 2020, the vulnerable group in phase one, which is about 1.3 million people, will be vaccinated."
According to official statistics released daily by the Ministry of Health, as of Tuesday, 58,625 people have died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to more than 1.48 million. However, some non-governmental organizations and members of parliament have questioned the accuracy of these figures, suggesting that the number of victims could be three to four times higher than the official figures.
