Earthquake in Bushehr | Genaveh shook more than 20 times; Concerns about housing earthquake victims and the risk of coronavirus

An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale shook the city of Genaveh in Bushehr province, but according to Islamic Republic officials, the damage was minor and there were no casualties.

The earthquake, which occurred at 11:11 a.m. on Sunday, April 10, was felt in other cities in Bushehr province as well as in Fars province.

So far, the number of aftershocks in Genaveh has reached more than 20, with 7 earthquakes measuring more than 4 on the Richter scale.

The Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant's public relations department has also issued a statement stating that no damage has been caused to the complex.

The earthquake has sparked concerns at a time when Bushehr province, like many other regions in Iran, is in a “red” coronavirus situation. Gholamreza Mehrjoo , the governor of Genaveh, told IRNA: “Given the coronavirus situation and the need to avoid gatherings, if an aftershock occurs at night, sports facilities in the city and village will be used.”

On the same day, the president of Bushehr University of Medical Sciences told Tasnim News Agency that the number of daily positive cases of patients infected with the coronavirus in the past week has been five and a half times higher and the number of deaths four times higher than in March of last year.

According to this local official, "the normal capacity of hospitals in Bushehr province is now being filled."
