World Health Organization: The number of coronavirus cases has increased by "seven percent" in the past two weeks

The World Health Organization announced late Tuesday that despite a decline in the death rate from the coronavirus, the number of cases of the infectious virus has increased by "seven percent" worldwide over the past week.

According to the organization, the resurgence in the number of infections comes after coronavirus cases in countries such as China, Japan, North Korea, Australia and New Zealand have been increasing over the past two weeks.

The latest report published by the United Nations health agency on the COVID-19 pandemic shows that more than 12 million people have been infected with the coronavirus in just one week.

This seven percent increase comes at a time when the number of coronavirus cases around the world has been steadily declining since the beginning of this year.

Despite this, the number of deaths from this disease has fallen to less than 33,000 per week, indicating a 23% decrease in coronavirus deaths.

Health officials have repeatedly stated that infection with the Omicron strain is associated with milder complications compared to previous coronavirus strains such as Delta, and that vaccination, especially booster doses, is highly effective in preventing severe symptoms of the disease.

Statistics published on the Johns Hopkins University website show that since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic in the past two years, more than 474 million cases of coronavirus have been recorded and identified worldwide, and more than six million and 100 thousand people have died from the virus.
