Amnesty International: Heydar Ghorbani is at risk of execution; appeal to Ayatollah Khamenei to overturn the death sentence

Amnesty International says Iranian Kurdish prisoner Heydar Ghorbani is facing execution. The organization says “confessions” were extracted from him under torture and used against him to issue a death sentence.

The organization has called on Iranian authorities to halt any plans to execute him.

Amnesty International has called on Ayatollah Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, to cancel his death sentence "right now" and give him the opportunity for a fair trial.

Earlier, Voice of America reported, citing the Iranian Human Rights Organization, that the Supreme Court had rejected the request for a retrial of Heydar Ghorbani, a political prisoner sentenced to death in Sanandaj Central Prison. According to that report, Mr. Heydar Ghorbani's case has been sent to the Execution of Sentences Department.
