Soha Mortezaei, a student at the University of Tehran, was sentenced to six years in prison.

Reports indicate that Soha Mortezai, a student who was arrested during the protests in January of last year, has been sentenced to six years in prison and a two-year ban from membership in political parties and groups.
The HRANA website, which publishes human rights news in Iran, reported on Monday, September 16, that this master's student in humanities and secretary of the central student union of Tehran University was sentenced to six years in prison by Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Ahmadzadeh.
The heavy prison sentences handed down to students who were arrested following protests in January of last year have drawn criticism from human rights activists.
Human Rights Watch also condemned the harsh judicial sentences against the students.
US State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert also tweeted: "We condemn Iran's action in issuing prison sentences for students who were peacefully demonstrating."
In early September, the lawyer for Parisa Rafiei, a 21-year-old student at the University of Tehran, announced that the Revolutionary Court had sentenced the student to a total of 7 years in prison on charges of gathering and collusion with the intent to commit a crime against national security, propaganda activity against the system, and disturbing public order.
During the nationwide protests in Iran that began on Thursday, January 27, and spread to more than 72 cities in Iran, about 100 students were arrested across Iran. Ms. Soha Mortezaei was arrested along with a number of other students following these protests.
