Floods in Kalibar kill three, cause extensive damage

Iranian news agencies have reported serious flood damage to four villages and infrastructure in the city of Kalybar, located in East Azerbaijan. Three people have lost their lives. More than 200 head of light and heavy livestock have been destroyed.

The IRNA news agency reported on the severe damage caused by the floods in various regions of East Azerbaijan on Sunday, August 8. According to the report, three people were killed, aged 13, 15, and 60.

Edalat Hajipour, the governor of Kaleebar, said that flooding has occurred in the four villages of Guwar, Sehriq, Arabshah Khan, and Chai Kandi, and has caused serious damage to Kaleebar's infrastructure, including the gas, electricity, drinking water transmission lines, and the city's drinking water treatment plant.

On Sunday evening, heavy rain caused flash floods in the area, taking people by surprise. In addition to infrastructure, gardens, farms, livestock, some homes, and people's cars have also been severely damaged.

On Sunday, the Meteorological Organization warned of temporary flooding, strong winds, and flash floods in 12 provinces of Iran.

These areas include the northern half of West Azerbaijan, East Azerbaijan, Ardabil, Zanjan, Hamedan, the northern half of Fars, eastern Kurdistan, Lorestan, southwestern Isfahan, eastern Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, and the Mazandaran highlands.

Due to the destruction of forests and the environment in Iran, any heavy rain in this country leads to flooding and destruction of people's property and assets, instead of reaching natural water resources.

Heavy rainfall this spring caused flooding and inundation in the provinces of Tehran, Khorasan Razavi, South Khorasan, Kerman, Semnan, Isfahan, and Yazd. In addition to damaging homes, cars, and roads, a number of citizens in the aforementioned provinces went missing.
