Journalist Masoud Kazemi arrested again and transferred to Evin

Journalist Masoud Kazemi, who had gone to the prosecutor's office today to have his case heard, was arrested again.

The court hearing on the case of Masoud Kazemi was held on Wednesday, June 28, at Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court, but the journalist was arrested and transferred to Evin Prison in handcuffs.

 

The journalist had previously announced on Twitter that a court hearing would be held to review his case.

On Wednesday, June 1st (about a month from now), the court session to hear the first part of the case they have prepared for me will be held. Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Moghiseh.

Ali Motjahedzadeh, Masoud Kazemi's lawyer, wrote on Twitter about the details of this court session that his client's bail of "one hundred million" tomans had been increased to "one billion" tomans, and as a result, Masoud Kazemi was arrested and transferred to Evin Prison.

According to the journalist's lawyer, new charges that were not raised in the prosecution have also been explained in court.

The lawyer also protested the behavior of the judge of this court in another tweet, writing that "he repeatedly cursed Masoud Kazemi during the hearing. This is a strange behavior that cannot be imagined. Certainly, Mr. Raisi is responsible for such behavior of judges in this world and the hereafter."

 

This Iranian journalist, who has a history of collaborating with newspapers such as Sharq and Qanon, was arrested by security agents at his home in Tehran in November 2018.

Previously, in February 2018, Masoud Kazemi's lawyer told IRNA about the journalist's charges, stating that his client's charges included "spreading lies, insulting officials and officials, propaganda against the system, and insulting the position of the Leader."

International human rights organizations and the United States government have accused the Islamic Republic of violating freedom of expression and suppressing journalists, and have called for the release of journalists who have been imprisoned simply for carrying out their duties and careers.

Reporters Without Borders, in its report on the harassment and repression of journalists in 2018, referred to the arrest of journalists in Iran.
