“Rezgar Beigzadeh-Babamiri” Sentenced to 15 Years Imprisonment

The Court of Appeals confirmed a 15-year prison sentence for “Rezgar Beigzadeh-Babamiri,” a detainee from nationwide protests.
Rezgar Beigzadeh-Babamiri was arrested in Farvardin 1402 (March-April 2023) in connection with the nationwide protests of 1401 (2022) and was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment on charges of participation in murder during the nationwide protests of 1401.
A hearing on his case was held on 3 Dey of last year (December 24, 2024). In addition to this case, Rezgar Beigzadeh has another file charged with “baghi” (armed rebellion), which is being reviewed in the Revolutionary Court of Urmia. Now, through published reports, the 15-year prison sentence has been confirmed for him.
“Zhino Beigzadeh,” the son of Rezgar, published a statement noting that the 15-year imprisonment conviction for his father was exactly confirmed by the Court of Appeals of West Azerbaijan, and the said ruling was issued to Rezgar Beigzadeh in prison by the execution branch of the Urmia Judiciary.
The increasing number of detainees from nationwide protests, or detention for expressing opinions and viewpoints of citizens, the issuance of long-term prison sentences against them on baseless charges, is indicative of an intensified repressive approach by security agencies, particularly during nationwide protests, toward political and ideological prisoners.
