A number of those arrested during last January's protests over the downing of a Ukrainian plane have been sentenced to prison.

Five citizens of Amol, named Shura Fekri, Meysam Khalili, Mohsen Rezaei, Salman Farrokhi, and another person with the surname Raei, who were arrested during the protests in January 2019, have been sentenced to a total of 30 months in prison by the Revolutionary Court.

According to the Human Rights in Iran website, these citizens living in Amol were sentenced to 6 months in prison each on Tuesday, May 2, in separate cases by the city's Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Mahdavi, on charges of "propaganda against the system." The verdict was communicated to these individuals on Wednesday, May 2.

It should be noted that this report does not provide information regarding the time of arrest or release of these individuals.

According to this report, the sentence was issued due to the presence of these citizens in the protests in January of last year, following the downing of Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 by a missile attack by the Revolutionary Guards, killing 176 passengers on board.

Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752, which was en route from Tehran to the Ukrainian capital of Kiev on January 8, 2020 with 176 passengers, crashed minutes after taking off due to a missile attack by the Revolutionary Guard near the new city of Parand in Tehran province, killing all of its passengers, who were mostly Iranians.

On Friday, April 10, the 100th day since the crash of the passenger plane in Iran, US State Department spokesperson Morgan Ortagus said in a Twitter message: "100 days ago, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targeted and shot down Flight PS752, killing 176 passengers and crew."
