88 child laborers identified on the streets of Rasht

HRANA News Agency – The Director General of Welfare of Gilan Province announced the identification and activity of 88 child laborers on the streets of Rasht.

According to HRANA news agency, quoting Tasnim, the Director General of Welfare of Gilan Province stated that 90 percent of child laborers in Gilan are non-natives and noted: “Currently, 88 child laborers and street children have been identified in Rasht city and a case has been filed for them.”

According to this report, no official reports have been made in other cities of Gilan province. Non-native children may be seen on the streets temporarily during certain times of the year, including holidays and hot seasons, and they are not constantly working on the streets.

Regarding the main reason why children turn to work in Gilan, Khidmatbin Dana said: "The main reason why children turn to work is financial poverty and the need of some families for financial support, as well as the culture of work and children standing on their own feet in some families; more than 90% of the families of child laborers in Gilan are non-natives."
