Global Voice of Freedom: Iranians Abroad Support People Inside Iran

Iranians living around the world have taken to the streets in support of the Iranian people and joined the protests, a solidarity that transcends borders.

As the nationwide protests in Iran enter their third week, and security forces attempt to contain them with heavy repression and internet shutdowns, Iranians living abroad have once again expressed their support for the people inside Iran with massive and passionate rallies on different continents of the world. This transnational solidarity shows that the “Women, Life, Freedom” movement has now become a global voice for freedom and justice.

In major European cities such as Berlin, Brussels, The Hague, Amsterdam and other Dutch cities, thousands of Iranians and human rights supporters gathered in the streets to show their support for the protests inside Iran, chanting slogans such as “Women, Life, Freedom” and “Death to the Dictator.” Protesters in Berlin, carrying placards bearing symbols of the resistance and the Iranian flag, called for an end to repression and an international response to the crisis inside Iran.

In London, hundreds of people gathered in front of the Iranian embassy; the protesters not only chanted slogans against the suppression of protests in Iran, but also conveyed the message of resistance and hope for the future to the world by lowering the official flag and raising the flag of the pre-1979 revolution (the lion and the sun). It should be noted that the British police did not prevent the lowering of the flag of the Islamic Republic from the entrance of the Iranian embassy. Protests in Britain are also continuing in other major cities such as Birmingham, Newcastle, Manchester, etc.

In the United States and Canada, Iranians and their allies held large rallies in cities including New York, Washington, Los Angeles, Toronto, and Montreal. Participants held placards on human rights and called for an end to foreign support for oppressors and political pressure on the Islamic Republic.

In Australia, Iranians living in Melbourne, Sydney and other cities took to the streets, joining protesters inside Iran, shouting for freedom and an end to oppression. The rallies came as news of internet shutdowns and families being cut off from their loved ones caused widespread concern among the diaspora.

Iranians abroad have not only been active in physical gatherings; they have also been trying to amplify the voice of domestic protests with united slogans and global messages, and to attract the attention of international media and human rights organizations. Many participants held placards with messages such as “Free Iran, Freedom for All,” “Our Voice is the Voice of the Iranian People,” “This is Not the Last Battle, Pahlavi is Returning,” “Who? Reza Pahlavi,” “Javid Shah,” “Long Live Reza Shah,” and “Death to the Dictator,” which demonstrate emotional and political solidarity with protesters inside the country.

Recent developments also show that Iranians in the diaspora have held protest rallies not only in previously well-known cities, but also in less prominent cities such as Hamburg, Budapest, Auckland, Tokyo, and other global centers, demonstrating the breadth of international support.

Human rights experts and political analysts believe that this global support for the Iranian protests goes beyond a few simple rallies; it is a clear political message to the Iranian government and the international community that the Iranian people's demand for freedom, justice, and profound structural change is supported and echoed not only within the country but also around the world.

Overall, the presence of Iranians on the streets of America, Europe, Canada, Australia, Britain, and other parts of the world shows that the movement of the Iranian people is no longer limited to geographical borders and has become a global wave of freedom that has attracted the attention of politicians, the media, and international institutions.
