Abdolreza Ghanbari, a teacher imprisoned in Evin, is suffering from an illness.

"Abdolreza Ghanbari," a teacher in prison who was arrested on October 11 by the Evin Maghadasi Prosecutor's Office and transferred to Evin Prison, was transferred to Ward 8, Hall 32, Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj on November 9 to serve out his sentence. His family says Mr. Ghanbari's physical condition is not good.

A source close to Mr. Ghanbari's family told VOA that his current physical condition inside the prison is not good and he is suffering from a digestive disease. Abdolreza Ghanbari contracted this disease during his previous detention, after being deported to Borazjan prison in December 2013.

Abdolreza Ghanbari, a teacher imprisoned in March 2015, was released from Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj after serving more than 6 years in prison, following a change in the rules of procedure and acceptance of a retrial, with the execution of the sentence suspended. However, upon re-examining the case, Judge Moghiseh increased his 10-year prison sentence to 15 years. On October 11, Mr. Ghanbari was re-arrested by the Evin Prosecutor's Office, and after nearly a month of detention in Evin Prison, he was transferred to Rajai Shahr Prison.

This informed source told VOA that there has been no change in the process of handling Mr. Ghanbari's case at this time after his re-arrest.

He said the family's request to the authorities is to first transfer Mr. Ghanbari from Rajai Shahr Prison to Evin Prison and then release him from prison.

This is not the first time that such a severe sentence has been issued in Iran for a teacher union activist. Not long ago, the sentence of ten years and six months in prison and flogging for Mohammad Habibi, a teacher union activist and member of the board of directors of the Tehran Province Teachers Association, was upheld by the Court of Appeal.

The US Secretary of State has repeatedly criticized the Islamic Republic of Iran for human rights violations in the country.
