Haidar Azimi Killed Amid News Blackout

Haidar Azimi was killed as a result of torture by suppressive security forces amid a news blackout.

According to reports published on social media pages today, Haidar Azimi was arrested in the initial days of public protests in Tabriz and was subjected to pressure and torture by interrogators to force him to confess to the killing of Hossein Ajeqi, a Basij member who was killed during Tabriz protests.

During a brief phone call with his family, Haidar Azimi stated that interrogators from the Intelligence Department tortured him in order to extract a forced confession about the killing of Hossein Ajeqi.

Finally, after months of detention and torture, his body was handed over to his family on December 12 and was buried under strict security measures.

The suppressive forces not only prevented his funeral ceremony from being held but also threatened the Azimi family to remain silent about their son’s extrajudicial killing and refrain from reporting it.

Hearing this news makes it clear that the Islamic Republic government has no regard for public protests, the innocence of the people, or their right to justice. Instead, it only seeks to pin the deaths of government agents on the people and condemn them to execution, perhaps in an attempt to prevent a popular uprising and suppress further protests.
