Leila Hosseinzadeh was transferred to the women's ward of Evin Prison to serve her sentence.

Leila Hosseinzadeh, a student who had previously been sentenced to 30 months in prison on charges of gathering, collusion, and propaganda against the regime, was transferred to the women's ward of Evin Prison to serve her sentence.

On Monday, August 5, Amir Raisian, the lawyer for detained student Leila Hosseinzadeh, posted a text on his Twitter account confirming the transfer of the student activist to the women's ward of Evin Prison to serve her prison sentence.

Leila Hosseinzadeh, a student at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Tehran, was among the students arrested in January 2017 and sentenced to 30 months in prison on charges of "gathering and collusion" and "propaganda against the system."

The announcement of Ms. Hosseinzadeh's final conviction, in addition to student protests, has sparked widespread criticism on social media. Some users have written in messages that Leila Hosseinzadeh's verdict shows that the judiciary's practices have not changed since Ebrahim Raisi took office.

Over the past year, the heavy sentences handed down to students arrested in those protests have drawn criticism from students, professors, and human rights activists.
