Suspension of implementation of the Chastity and Hijab Law by decision of the Supreme National Security Council

Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf announced the suspension of the implementation of the Chastity and Hijab Law, following a decision by the Supreme National Security Council.
Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, announced that the implementation of the Chastity and Hijab Law has been suspended in accordance with the decision of the Supreme National Security Council. This decision has been approved by the Parliament in addition to being approved by Ali Khamenei.
A representative of the Islamic Association of Students of Allameh Tabatabaei University asked the Speaker of the Parliament a question about this decision, to which Qalibaf replied: "The Supreme National Security Council has a resolution that if issues cause challenges and tension, the Secretariat can stop it. That is, the Secretariat has this authority on its own, but this issue came up in the council and everyone voted unanimously. This resolution has also been approved by Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei."
The representative of the Islamic Association protested the suspension of the implementation of this law and its approval. This law was passed two years ago in response to nationwide protests and the "Women, Life, Freedom" movement in Iran, which led to many reactions inside and outside the country.
The 47-article law, which was passed by the parliament and the Guardian Council, imposes heavy fines on women who refuse to wear the compulsory hijab. In addition, it also imposes fines and the sealing of businesses that violate chastity and hijab regulations.
Many women and girls in Iran have been arrested over the past two years for not wearing the mandatory hijab, and in many cases have been subjected to physical and psychological harassment.
The Supreme National Security Council decided to suspend this law even though Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei, the head of the Iranian judiciary, had said that the chastity and hijab law should be announced and implemented. Masoud Pezhakian had also said about this law in the past two months that, as the implementer of this law, many questions and ambiguities remain for the executive branch.
