People's visits to the relief committee have increased by 46 percent.

The head of the relief committee says that due to "economic shocks" and "problems caused by Corona," people's visits in 2020 have increased by 45 to 46 percent compared to the previous year.

According to Tasnim, Morteza Bakhtiari also announced a 15 percent increase in the number of people covered by the relief committee this year.

According to the latest statistics provided by Majid Malekshahi, Director General of the Relief Committee's Assistance Services Center, on January 6 of this year, more than 4.2 million people are covered by this organization.

The head of the relief committee also pointed to "frequent changes in the prices of food items" and warned that if "economic shocks" are not addressed, "we will face the creation of poverty."

Mr. Bakhtiari had also said in December of this year that this organization's research in 2017 in 32 counties regarding food and clothing poverty had reached "shocking numbers."

This news comes at a time when Hassan Rouhani's first vice president, Eshaq Jahangiri, recently claimed that the government will not allow "the Iranian people to bend under economic pressure," despite the "bad situation" of the Islamic Republic's oil revenues this year.

In recent years, due to economic pressures and the inability of government-affiliated economic institutions to meet the demands of various segments of the population, especially workers and retirees, protest gatherings have increased significantly.

Typically, these gatherings have been met with indifference from government officials and violence from security forces and police.
