Tehran police official on the beating of a woman in Latyan: She resisted and caused the incident

In response to the violent behavior of several police officers towards a woman in the Latyan Dam area, the deputy head of the Greater Tehran Police Force sought to justify this violent behavior, despite claims that "the method of arresting the individuals was contrary to police doctrine and is not approved," and said that he and his companion "resisted the officers and caused this incident."

In a video posted on social media on Friday, May 6, a police officer, after beating a woman, along with two other officers, force the citizen into a police car.

In response to the release of this video, the capital's police information center announced on Saturday that the Tehran police chief had ordered a "special investigation" into the incident.

Morad Moradi, Deputy Chief of Police for Greater Tehran, said on Sunday, May 8, about the details of the incident that "police officers stationed at the Latyan Dam checkpoint ordered the driver of a car to stop after observing dangerous movements, but he fled the scene without paying attention to the police order."

According to Mr. Moradi, some "grass" was discovered in the car, and the resistance of the two female passengers to arrest led to a clash between them and the officers.

Police have been known to treat citizens violently during arrests, even shooting them in the air or directly at them.

In late April, a video was posted on social media showing a police officer in Mashhad shooting a citizen in the leg as he approached him, wounding him.

In explaining the incident, the Binaloud Police Commander identified the citizen who was targeted as the driver of a passenger car who was driving at an illegal speed and in a dangerous manner and had resisted police warnings to stop.
