Eight authors of letter calling for Khamenei's resignation sentenced to 72 years in prison

Attorney Mohammad Hossein Aghasi says that eight of the signatories of the open letter calling on Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to resign from the position of leader have been sentenced to 72 years in prison.

Mr. Aghasi announced on his Twitter page that the Mashhad Revolutionary Court had not notified these rulings and that he must go to the court and transcribe them.

According to him, Abdul Rasoul Mortazavi has been sentenced to 26 years in prison and Mohammad Hossein Sepehri to six years in prison.

Hashem Khastar has been sentenced to 16 years in prison, three years of exile to Nikshahr city, and a three-year ban on leaving the country.

Mohammad Nourizad has also been sentenced to 15 years in prison, three years of exile to Izeh, and a three-year ban on leaving the country.

Fatemeh Sepehri was sentenced to six years in prison, and Hashem Rajaei, Mohammad Hosseinpour, and Morteza Ghasemi were each sentenced to one year in prison.

On June 11 of this year, 14 civil and political activists inside Iran published an open letter calling for Ali Khamenei's resignation as leader and a fundamental change to the constitution.

Mohammad Nourizad, Mohammad Maleki, Engineer Hashem Khastar, Gohar Eshghi, Abbas Vahedian Shahroudi, Hourieh Farajzadeh, Kamal Jafari Yazdi, Mohammad Mahdavifar, Javad Lal Mohammadi, Reza Mehregan, Mohammad Reza Bayat, Mohammad Karimbeigi, Zaratasht Ahmadi Ragheb, and Mohammad Hossein Sepehri signed this letter.

According to these activists, in a situation where "there is no talk of a republic or freedom," the bargaining of civil society activists will not lead anywhere "without the resignation of Seyyed Ali Khamenei and a change in the constitution."

After that, 14 female activists in Iran issued a statement calling for "Ali Khamenei's resignation" and "transition from the Islamic Republic."

Most of the writers of these letters are still in prison and their trials have been held.

Reports have also been published about the poor physical condition of some of the detainees, including Mohammad Nourizad.

Meanwhile, 10 civil society activists who had gathered in front of the Mashhad Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office on August 10 to protest the heavy prison sentence for Kamal Jafari Yazdi, one of the signatories of this letter, were arrested.
