Marco Rubio warns about Iran's role in regional instability

Emphasizing Iran's ancient culture, Marco Rubio considered Ali Khamenei to be the cause of exporting the revolution and a threat to the stability of the Middle East.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned of the Islamic Republic's actions in the region at a meeting with his counterparts from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries held in New York on Wednesday, September 24. He said: "Iran poses a serious threat to stability and security with its destabilizing policies in Syria, Lebanon and other parts of the Middle East."

Rubio, while referring to Iran's long-standing presence in Syria and its support for the Bashar al-Assad regime, considered this approach to be one of the main factors of instability in the region. He also emphasized the importance of developments in Syria, adding that the fate of the country will have a direct impact on the future of regional security.

In another part of his speech, the US Secretary of State announced Washington's efforts to support the formation of a strong government in Lebanon; a government that, he said, should stay away from the influence of the Islamic Republic and Hezbollah and reflect the country's political and social diversity.

While praising Iran's rich culture and history, Rubio accused the Islamic Republic's leaders of seeking to export revolution and create instability rather than improve the situation of their people. He warned that the United States would not allow the Islamic Republic to acquire weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear weapons.
