German official warns: Europe should expect 100 million refugees from Africa

The German government's development minister warns that if global warming continues at its current rate, a large population of people will migrate from Africa to Europe, possibly up to one hundred million people.
Gerd Müller, Minister for Development Affairs in the Federal Government of Germany, has warned that if global warming is not reduced to two degrees, millions of refugees and asylum seekers will flock to Europe, especially from the African continent.
The Minister of Cooperation and Development explained in an interview with the newspaper "Bild am Sonntag": "A million people are added to the population of African countries every day. If these people do not find prospects for prosperity and a better life in their own countries, they will inevitably choose to emigrate."
"If we continue on the current trend, we will definitely soon be faced with increasing waves of immigrants," criticizes Gerd Müller.
He believes that Europe and the West should consider formulating and implementing a comprehensive program to improve living conditions in Africa.
According to him, the most important solution is for the West to invest extensively in Africa and do so on fair terms so that African workers can benefit from the fruits of their labor and efforts and not find themselves forced to emigrate.
Concern for Africa
At the upcoming G8 summit, which will be held in Hamburg on July 7 and 8, Africa's problems will be one of the main topics of discussion.
Last month, during the African leaders' summit in Berlin, the German government allocated $300 million for the development of the continent.
The long-term goal is for African governments to encourage public and private enterprises from around the world to invest in the continent through reforms and new initiatives.
In her recent meeting with Pope Francis, German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced the world's Catholic leader's full support for the fight against poverty and deprivation.
"He encouraged me to continue with seriousness on the path I have taken in implementing international agreements," Merkel told reporters on Saturday after a private meeting with the Pope.
