Rouhani's government promises "free electricity" for 30 million Iranians

For the second time in as many weeks, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani promised on Thursday that 30 million of the country's population would have "free" electricity.

According to ISNA news agency, Mr. Rouhani described free electricity as a "reward for low-consumption consumers."

He said: "The Ministry of Energy proposed free electricity, and this proposal was approved by the government, and 30 million people will not pay for electricity consumption for the next two months, and as long as they use less, their electricity will be free."

Hassan Rouhani further explained that "this plan mainly concerns the situation of rural people."
