Floods damage 11,000 kilometers of roads in Iran

An official from the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development of the Islamic Republic announced that the recent floods in various regions of Iran, which began on March 16, have so far damaged about 11,000 kilometers of roads.

According to IRNA news agency, Reza Akbari, Director General of the Road Maintenance Office of the Road Administration and Road Transport Organization, announced this news on Sunday, April 1, adding that 159 roads were closed due to flooding, most of which were reopened, but 27 communication axes are still closed.

Shahram Adamnejad, Deputy Minister of Roads, also said that 314 bridges were destroyed during the recent floods.

With the onset of flooding in various regions of Iran about two weeks ago, much criticism was raised regarding the lack of information and late action by government agencies to provide relief.
