Ages 20 to 40 Peak of Drug Use / Students’ Inclination Toward Cannabis, Marijuana and Hashish

An addiction research expert stated that the peak of drug use occurs between the ages of 20 to 40.

Homan Naranjia, an addiction expert and researcher, said: The state of addiction in the country has not changed significantly compared to previous years, and young people continue to make up the majority of addicts in the country.

He added: Nowadays, addiction occurs in the age group of 20 to 40 years, with most women between 18 to 35 years old and men between 20 to 40 years old becoming involved with drugs.

This addiction expert further reported an increase in the consumption of hookah and cigarettes among students and said: The entry gates to addiction are the use of cigarettes, hookah and alcohol, and if a young person, especially before the age of 19, consumes them, the likelihood of becoming addicted is high. Of course, another reason for turning to drug use and addiction is psychological disorders in the individual.

He stated: Nowadays, the consumption of substances such as hashish, marijuana and cannabis has become trendy, and most students use these addictive substances.

The addiction expert concluded by noting: Currently, more education programs must be provided in the country to prevent and combat addiction.
