President Trump says the Islamic Republic is fighting for its survival

US President Donald Trump once again mentioned Iran on Tuesday night in Iowa, during another election campaign rally held to garner support for Republican candidates.

"Look at Iran," he said, enumerating the achievements of American foreign policy, "before I was in the White House, Iran was dominating the Middle East in twelve minutes. But now they are fighting for their survival. There is rebellion in every city."

Reports of strikes and popular protests in large and small cities in Iran have been making headlines in recent months. The people's main demands have been for improved living conditions.

With the imminent reimposition of US sanctions, which is taking place with Washington's withdrawal from the JCPOA, the value of the rial has fallen sharply against foreign currencies.

President Trump also pointed to his administration's foreign achievements on Tuesday, including withdrawing from the JCPOA, during a meeting to accept the resignation of Nikki Haley, his administration's first ambassador to the United Nations.

"Iran was another problem we faced when we first came into the White House," he said. "They were dominating the entire Middle East. Now the Iranian authorities are scrambling to save themselves. They are facing riots in their cities every day. Inflation is exploding. Their economy is collapsing. Eventually, they will come back to make a real deal. And not the stupid deal they signed. That deal was unacceptable to me. We'll have to see what happens. There's a difference between Iran then and Iran now."

As part of his strategy towards Iran, President Trump is calling for an agreement that blocks all avenues for the Islamic Republic to acquire nuclear weapons and prevents Tehran officials from interfering in the internal affairs of Middle Eastern Arab countries and from repeatedly threatening Israel.

Americans will vote on November 6th to elect lawmakers for the House of Representatives and one-third of the Senate.

President Trump is urging people to vote for Republican candidates in the congressional elections to continue his administration's domestic and foreign policies.
