Four trade unions in Semnan province sealed after women appeared without headscarves

Four trade unions in Semnan province were sealed off due to the women present not wearing the hijab.

Colonel Akbar Ghasemi, head of the Intelligence and Public Security Police of Semnan Province, announced the sealing of four trade union units in the province due to what he referred to as non-compliance with Islamic hijab laws.

Explaining this news, Colonel Ghasemi announced: "The sealing of these units was carried out in line with the implementation of the plan to intensify control and supervision over guilds in Semnan province, and assessing the guilds' level of adherence to the announced laws and regulations is among the parts of this plan."

According to the head of the intelligence police, out of the four sealed business units, two were restaurants, one was a wedding ceremony center, and one was a clothing store.

So far, many restaurants, coffee shops, and shops have been sealed due to the non-observance of the hijab of the people present in these places. The sealing of trade unions is carried out by the Public Places Supervision Department of the Police Force and by judicial order, while according to the words of "Nemat Ahmadi", a lawyer at a court, the sealing of trade unions in the name of confronting the hijab is not legal. According to the law, the crime and the punishment must be proportionate. The legislator has not yet defined a crime on the basis of which units can be punished for not wearing the hijab properly.

Lawyer Kambiz Norouzi also confirmed Nemat Ahmadi's words and added: "There is no law based on which business units can be sealed under the pretext of not observing the hijab. Closing business units under the pretext of not observing the hijab of their customers is illegal, and no judicial body is authorized to close business units under such a pretext."
