German police find 16 asylum seekers in a transport vehicle

Police in Bavaria, Germany, have arrested two people smugglers who were transporting 16 refugees from Austria to Germany in a van. Several Iranians are among the refugees.

Police in the Rosenheim region in Bavaria, Germany, reported on Monday, October 29, that a cargo truck near the Mittenwald area in Bavaria caught the attention of officers on Sunday, October 26, and after checking the vehicle, they found 16 refugees in the cargo area.

According to police, 12 men, one woman, and three children were sitting on the floor of the vehicle's cargo area and were given only water and bread throughout the journey.

According to the refugees, they had been riding in a truck for several days before getting into this car.

Two drivers had brought these refugees into Germany through the Austrian-German border.

The two drivers of the car are Pakistani and Turkish citizens. The 24-year-old driver is Pakistani and the other driver is 52 years old and Turkish. Both drivers have been arrested.

The asylum seekers are citizens of Pakistan, Türkiye, Iran and Iraq. Each of these asylum seekers paid several thousand euros to human traffickers to reach Germany.

It is not clear how many of the refugees in the vehicle were Iranian.
