Coronavirus in Iran; 216 more deaths, daily hospitalizations double in Tehran province

On Sunday, August 25, a spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Health announced that 216 more people had died from the coronavirus in the country, which is still an increase compared to previous days. This figure was announced for Saturday at 195 and for Friday at 215.
Sima Lari also announced the identification of 2,333 new COVID-19 patients in the country over the past 24 hours.
He said that, according to official statistics, the total number of deaths from the disease in Iran has now reached 15,700 and the total number of COVID-19 patients in the country has reached 291,172.
Ms. Lari added that 3,695 patients with COVID-19 are under observation in severe condition.
Official statistics provided by the Iranian Ministry of Health have repeatedly been met with skepticism and doubt by members of parliament, members of the Tehran City Council, and the media.
Some reports estimate the number of coronavirus victims in Iran to be at least twice the official figure.
Tehran situation
The Ministry of Health spokesperson further said that nine counties in Tehran province are on alert and daily hospitalizations in the province have doubled over the past month.
He stated: In the cities of Tehran, Pakdasht, Damavand, and Shahriar, the number of hospitalizations is on a relatively steep slope, so that in Tehran province, half of the adult intensive care beds are occupied by coronavirus patients.
According to Sima Lari, as in previous days, the provinces of Mazandaran, Fars, East and West Azerbaijan, Khorasan Razavi, Alborz, Khuzestan, Lorestan, Golestan, Kerman, Zanjan, and Ilam are in red status.
