Corona; Oxygen shortage in Khuzestan hospitals, warning about the resilience of the health system

According to an Iranian MP, out of every 10 people hospitalized in Khuzestan Province, 9 are infected with the mutated virus, and some cities in the province are facing oxygen shortages.
According to ISNA, on Thursday, March 19, Qasem Saedi described the situation in Khuzestan as "worrying" in terms of coronavirus, criticized the government for not imposing timely and sufficient restrictions, and called for quarantining red areas and reducing traffic in the province.
Mr. Saedi also reported a severe oxygen shortage in the Azadegan Plain, saying: "The oxygen machines in hospitals are not adequate for the patients, and we are witnessing the loss of our youth."
According to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Health, eight of the nine red cities in the country, including Abadan, Ahvaz, Bandar Mahshahr, Dezful, Ramhormoz, Shush, Shushtar, and Karun, are located in Khuzestan Province.
Following the critical situation in Khuzestan Province due to the widespread spread of the mutated virus, provincial officials have repeatedly requested the National Headquarters to quarantine the province in recent weeks, but these requests have remained unanswered each time.
According to the latest statistics announced by the governor of Khuzestan on Tuesday, March 16, "more than 1,300 people are hospitalized in hospitals in this province, and hospital beds in Ahvaz and most cities in Khuzestan are saturated."
Meanwhile, the presidents of medical universities across the country issued a message on Thursday, urging officials to make "serious decisions with greater determination and speed" to combat the coronavirus, and stated that if the number of patients increases, the country's health system will not be able to "resist the excessive burden."
According to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Health on Thursday, 89 more patients infected with the coronavirus have died in the country in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths from the disease to 61,581.
Sima Lari, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, announced that the number of new coronavirus patients in the same period was 7530, and the total number of COVID-19 patients in the country was 1,778,645.
Iranian Ministry of Health officials provide the media with daily statistics on the number of infections and deaths from the coronavirus without providing disaggregated statistics, while there are serious doubts about the accuracy of these statistics, and the Iranian Medical System Organization believes that the number of victims is three to four times the official figure.
