Synagogue of Jews in Tehran Collapses Due to Internal Excavation

The synagogue of Jews on Shariati Street in Tehran collapsed this Friday morning due to internal excavation of the building.

According to IRNA, this incident occurred when 16 Jewish worshippers were performing prayers and worship in the synagogue.

According to one of the firefighters, the building’s owner had been excavating the building’s floor for some time to expand the physical space, which had caused cracks in the structure.

One of the members present in the synagogue, while showing photographs, said: I had repeatedly warned the synagogue owner about these cracks and the possibility of the building’s collapse and asked him to stop the excavation.

Referring to the fact that this morning I came to the synagogue to perform prayers and suddenly witnessed the collapse of this building, he added: I thought all those present in the building would be killed, but when I went inside, I found that those present in the synagogue had quickly moved to the courtyard as soon as the building started to shake.

According to him, if this incident had happened tomorrow, which is our day of worship, given the presence of 250 people, there would have been a possibility of casualties.

One of the residents also said: I recently witnessed several tons of soil being removed from inside the building and transferred outside the city. Unfortunately, the municipality did not conduct proper oversight in this regard.
This incident did not result in any casualties, and only two parked vehicles in front of the Jewish synagogue were damaged.
