Annual Gender Gap Report: Iran ranks 150th alongside Syria, Iraq, Yemen, and Afghanistan

The World Economic Forum announced in its annual Gender Gap Report that the global gender gap has deepened due to the spread of the deadly coronavirus, with women more exposed to unemployment than men, and forced to stay home to care for children.

The report emphasizes that gender equality will not be achieved for another 136 years, while last year's report by this international organization stated that this figure was about 100 years.

According to the study, progress towards gender equality in politics in Western countries will take 52 years to achieve, but for countries in North Africa and the Middle East, it will take more than 142 years.

In the Gender Gap Report, which annually examines areas related to access to education, health, political empowerment, and economic opportunities in 156 countries around the world, Iran ranks 150th in the table, ahead of Congo, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, and Afghanistan, and Iceland, Finland, and Norway are respectively at the top of the countries with the smallest gender gap between men and women.
