Civil Activist Golrokh Ebrahimi Irayi Released After Completion of Sentence

Golrokh Ebrahimi Irayi, a civil activist, was released from Evin Prison upon completion of her sentence and under a bail arrangement pending the hearing of a new case.
Maryam Karim Beigi, sister of Mostafa Karim Beigi, announced on Monday, April 9, on her Twitter account the news of Golrokh Ebrahimi’s release from prison.
According to available information, Ms. Irayi was released from prison under a 60 million toman bail arrangement due to another case that was opened against her during her imprisonment.
Golrokh Ebrahimi, the wife of Arash Sadeghzadeh, was sentenced to three years in prison for writing an unpublished story in which she condemned the punishment of stoning.
Last year, the Vice Chair of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom announced in a statement that she had added Golrokh Ebrahimi Irayi’s name to the list of the “Project on Religious Prisoners of Conscience.”
In recent years, the United States has repeatedly protested and condemned widespread cases of human rights violations in Iran.
