The Free Workers’ Union of Iran announced that Parvin Mohammadi’s lawyer, despite his efforts, was unable to meet with his client, as the vice president of the Free Workers’ Union has been transferred from Shahid Kachouei Prison to Evin Prison.
According to a report from the Free Workers’ Union of Iran’s Telegram channel, Parvin Mohammadi, vice president of the Free Workers’ Union of Iran, has been transferred to Evin Prison.
Mohammadali Jadari Faroughi, a practicing lawyer, announced on Wednesday, 10 Bahman (January 30), the detention of Jafar Azimzadeh, president of the Free Workers’ Union of Iran.
Parvin Mohammadi was arrested on Tuesday, 9 Bahman, hours after the detention of Jafar Azimzadeh, president of the Free Workers’ Union of Iran, and was sent to prison with a bail set at 300 million tomans.
Iran Labor News Agency (ILNA) reported on Monday, 15 Bahman (February 4), that Mohammadali Jadari Faroughi, Parvin Mohammadi’s lawyer, announced the failure to change his client’s detention order.
Mohammadali Jadari Faroughi told ILNA: “A verdict was issued from Branch 102 of Criminal Court 2 in Fardis, in which, while stating the charges against the client, it was stated that given the delegation granted from the esteemed Deputy Prosecutor and the head of District 33 Evin Prosecutor’s Office, the temporary detention order has been confirmed.”
Jadari Faroughi also stated that efforts to change his client’s detention order to bail did not result in success. Ms. Mohammadi’s lawyer has expressed hope that in union cases, considering their nature, criminal conditions will not be applied and union activists will be supported.
Parvin Mohammadi, vice president of the Free Workers’ Union of Iran, was arrested last Tuesday and on Thursday morning, 11 Bahman, was “transferred to Karaj’s Shahid Kachouei Prison with a one-month temporary detention order.”
According to the Bidarani website, on Thursday morning, the Fardis Prosecutor’s Office in Karaj refused to accept the 300 million toman bail for Mohammadi’s release and issued a temporary detention order for this labor activist.
Although his family and friends provided the requested bail, the prosecutor’s office refused to accept it and instead sent him to Shahid Kachouei Prison with a one-month temporary detention order.
Parvin Mohammadi’s mother also protested her daughter’s arrest in a video message, saying that “Parvin has done nothing wrong” and has committed no crime. Mohammadi’s mother, in her video which was widely distributed on social networks, said that “Parvin defended workers’ rights and these things are not a crime.”
The Free Workers’ Union of Iran, in issuing a statement, protested the detention of Jafar Azimzadeh and Parvin Mohammadi and held the Islamic Republic government directly responsible for their life and safety.
Pressure on labor activists in Iran has increased in recent months amid escalating worker protests and demonstrations regarding their poor living conditions.
In recent days, several international human rights organizations and international labor associations have protested the widespread suppression and detention of labor activists in Iran and called for the release of detained and imprisoned workers and addressing the demands raised in labor protests.
