Canada Pressures Iran to Send Black Boxes

Canada’s Foreign Minister announced that he will pressure Iran to send the black boxes of the downed Ukrainian aircraft to France. Canada stated that it will judge the Iranian side based on its actions and conduct, not its promises.
François-Philippe Champagne, Canada’s Foreign Minister, today called on Iranian officials to immediately send the two black boxes of the downed Ukrainian aircraft to France so that experts in that country can examine and analyze the contents of these boxes.
According to Reuters report from Ottawa, Mr. Champagne said today, Wednesday, February 5th, that if Iran proceeds in this manner, it will damage the black boxes, because conducting this requires specialized expertise and technical equipment that Iran lacks.
Canada’s Foreign Minister also stated that he will discuss with Mohammad Javad Zarif, Iran’s Foreign Minister, regarding joint investigations, obtaining the contents of recorded information from the conversation between the Ukrainian aircraft pilot and the control tower, and how compensation will be paid to the families of 57 Canadian passengers who were victims of this incident.
Zarif had previously stated that Iran has the right under regulations to conduct and direct investigations and research in this matter.
However, Canada’s Foreign Minister emphasized that Canada will not accept further delays in sending the aircraft’s black boxes and is following up to ensure these contents are delivered to France as soon as possible.
Champagne also sent this message to Iran’s Foreign Minister: Canada judges the Iranian side based on its actions and conduct, not its promises.
Anne Linde, Sweden’s Foreign Minister, also wrote yesterday in a Twitter message that Iran is obliged to ensure “transparency, accountability and justice” regarding the victims of Ukraine’s flight 752, which was shot down by two missiles fired by the Revolutionary Guards.
Recently, the release of an audio file of a conversation between the co-pilot of Tehran-Shiraz flight of Aseman Airlines by a Ukrainian television network showed that at the time of impact of the Revolutionary Guards’ missiles on the Ukrainian aircraft, the airport’s control tower and officials of the Islamic Republic were informed of it.
