Iran’s Qualification for 2018 FIFA World Cup in Moscow

Iran’s national football team played against Uzbekistan on Monday evening at Azadi Stadium in Tehran. The Iranian national team scored two goals against Uzbekistan in the 23rd and 88th minutes of the match, and with this victory, qualified for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Moscow.
The match between Iran’s and Uzbekistan’s national football teams took place on Monday (June 12) at 21:15 Tehran time at Azadi Stadium in Tehran. The first half ended with Iran leading 1-0. Iran’s first goal was scored by Sardar Azmoun in the 23rd minute against Uzbekistan’s goal. The first half ended with this result.
In the second half, Mehdi Taremi gained possession within the penalty area and, after beating the opposing defender, scored against Uzbekistan’s goal. The match ended 2-0 in favor of Iran.
With this victory, Iran reached 20 points and qualified for the Moscow World Cup. Uzbekistan remained with 12 points, making their path to the World Cup difficult. Iran is the third team to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, after host nation Russia and Brazil.
This is Iran’s fifth appearance in the FIFA World Cup. Iran previously participated in the 1978 World Cup in Argentina, 1998 in France, 2006 in Germany, and 2014 in Brazil.

Uzbekistan’s national team coach made a forced substitution in the 7th minute due to Andreyev’s injury, sending Kashimov onto the field in his place.
