A member of parliament says that government officials should not "give a damn" to foreign Persian-language media outlets.

Referring to news topics such as Navid Afkari, Gohar Eshghi, the audio file of the Revolutionary Guards, and Catherine Shakdam, the deputy chairman of the Legal Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly in Iran says that foreign Persian-language media are looking for topics to "question the system" and that officials should be careful not to give them "a nudge."

Mohammad Movahed, the deputy head of the legal department of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, accused media outside Iran of “polarizing” and “surfing” in an interview with Fars News Agency on Tuesday, April 2, and called on officials to observe “certain issues” in their actions “so as not to give a jolt to the enemies, especially the foreign Persian-language media, because they are waiting for something, however small, to happen in the country” to “advance their own goals.”

Previously, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic, claimed regarding the leaked file on corruption in the Revolutionary Guard Corps that "slandering" the Islamic Consultative Assembly, the Guardian Council, the Revolutionary Guard Corps, and Qassem Soleimani were among the cases designed by "enemy think tanks" and that "enemy think tanks" wanted to "smear" the Revolutionary Guard Corps and Qassem Soleimani.

This is while an audio file of statements by Mohammad Ali Jafari, former commander-in-chief of the IRGC, and Sadegh Zolghadrnia, deputy economic officer of the IRGC, about financial corruption in this institution, which was published some time ago and confirmed by the Fars News Agency, which is close to the IRGC, refers to the role of Qassem Soleimani and his connection to major financial corruption cases related to the IRGC's Quds Force, the IRGC Cooperative Foundation, and the Tehran Municipality.

The reference by the deputy chairman of the Parliament's Legal Affairs Committee to cases such as the execution of Navid Afkari and the attack on Gohar Eshghi comes at a time when Saeed Afkari, the brother of the wrestler executed in Iran, has previously emphasized the public's support for his family and the reaction of the authorities, saying that "even after Navid's execution," they are "still nervous and angry" about the unity of the people.

Gohar Eshghi also explained how the assassination attempt occurred in a video posted on the Sattar Beheshti Foundation's Instagram account on Saturday, December 10, just two days after the suspected assassination attempt on her.

Following this incident, a spokesperson for the US State Department said they were aware of reports of an attack on Sattar Beheshti's mother, and told VOA Persian: "We remain deeply concerned by reports of attacks on human rights defenders and their families."

The United States has repeatedly and on various occasions condemned the Islamic Republic of Iran for various human rights violations.

Agents of the Islamic Republic have also been active in harassing and threatening to kidnap Iranian journalists living abroad. The failed plot to kidnap Masih Alinejad, a journalist and human rights activist, from New York City is one of the most recent actions worth mentioning.

The United States imposed sanctions on Iranian security officials and entities a few months ago for “serious human rights abuses,” the suppression of protests, and the undermining of democracy. The State Department, in a statement, quoted Secretary of State Antony Blinken as saying that the United States uses a wide range of tools to expose and stop human rights abuses.
