12 people were executed in Zahedan Prison

Twelve prisoners were executed in Zahedan for various crimes, including drug-related ones. Iranian human rights activists have warned about the high number of death sentences in Iran, saying that the Iranian judiciary does not announce the actual number of executions.
HRANA, the news agency of the Human Rights Activists' Association in Iran, has reported the execution of 12 people in Zahedan Prison. These prisoners were executed on Monday morning, June 6. According to HRANA, most of these prisoners were sentenced to death on drug-related charges.
Referring to the annual report of the Center for Statistics, Publications and Works of the Human Rights Activists' Association in Iran, HRANA reported on the high number of death sentences in Iran, saying that more than 88 percent of executions carried out in Iran are not reported by the government or judicial institutions, and human rights organizations speak of "secret" executions in Iran.
According to a report released by Amnesty International about two weeks ago, Iran ranks second after China and is one of the countries where the increase in the number of executions is worrying. According to the report, 314 people were executed in the country last year, the highest number since 2017. Most of those executed were arrested in connection with drugs. The number of executions in Iran in 2020 was 246.
According to this organization, at least 579 cases of executions have been recorded in 18 countries around the world, an increase of 20 compared to 2020.
