Christian Activists Warn About Surge in Antisemitism and Call for Decisive Action by Europe

Amid rising security and political tensions in Iran and Europe and a concerning increase in antisemitic slogans and actions in some European cities, a group of Iranian Christian leaders and activists have warned in a statement that government inaction against hate speech paves the way for normalizing violence and extremism. They called on European governments and international bodies to stand against currents threatening social security and civil liberties by adopting practical and immediate policies.

The statement emphasizes that the increase in verbal attacks and anti-Jewish propaganda in Europe is not merely a cultural or political issue, but has become a direct threat to public safety and human rights values. The authors of the statement stressed that certain extremist currents and networks affiliated with the Islamic Republic play an active role in spreading an atmosphere of hate and inciting violence, and exploit media and virtual spaces to legitimize such behaviors.

Part of the warning states: “If hate speech is not genuinely countered, it gradually transforms from an exceptional behavior into an accepted habit.”

The signatories of this statement believe that European governments, particularly Britain and Germany, along with bodies such as the European Union and the United Nations, possess the necessary legal and executive capacity to counter this process, but these capacities must be translated into concrete and deterrent measures.

The statement continues by presenting a set of key recommendations to curb antisemitism and combat networks promoting hate, including:

  • Strict enforcement of laws against hate speech in media and social networks
  • Identification and legal prosecution of individuals engaged in promoting hate or inciting violence
  • Requiring digital platforms to quickly remove antisemitic and violent content
  • Prevention of the creation of spaces that normalize or make acceptable hatred against Jews
  • Government transparency regarding measures taken and their results
  • Prevention of holding gatherings where antisemitic slogans or calls for violence are raised
  • Calling on the British government to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on the list of terrorist organizations and to implement this decision practically
  • Emphasis on the necessity of decisive action by European countries against networks and institutions affiliated with the Revolutionary Guard
  • Practical support for the Iranian people in the path of ending the rule of the Islamic Republic, due to this government’s role in destabilizing and security activities in Europe
  • Security monitoring of individuals who, after traveling to Iran, openly engage in propaganda or political activities in support of the Islamic Republic

The statement concludes by emphasizing that indifference to hate speech means contributing to its spread, and countering this trend must be placed on governments’ agendas as an immediate human rights and security responsibility.
