Statement by Christian Citizens for a Free Iran Based on Freedom and Democratic Transition

A number of Christian citizens, through the publication of a statement and by sending letters regarding Iran’s future, have emphasized democratic transition, religious freedom, and support for the Iranian people.
Concurrent with the intensification of political and social crises in Iran, a group of Iranian Christian activists both inside and outside the country, through the publication of a letter on the subject of a free Iran, have declared their position regarding the country’s political future. This group, consisting of priests, church servants, and managers of Christian organizations, seeks to present the viewpoint of a segment of Iranian Christian society in discussions related to Iran’s future.
The group, through the publication of a public statement as well as the sending of two formal letters, has emphasized that Iranian Christians, as part of the country’s society, feel a sense of responsibility toward Iran’s momentous developments and seek to shape a future based on freedom, justice, and universal participation.
In the first statement published on February 28, 2026, this community, referring to the country’s difficult and tense conditions, called upon Iranians to maintain a spirit of solidarity and responsibility in such circumstances. The statement emphasized the importance of supporting vulnerable individuals, providing humanitarian assistance, and disseminating accurate and reliable information.
The signatories of this statement also asked the people to follow news related to the country’s developments only from credible sources in order to prevent the creation of fear and confusion in society. They emphasized that preserving hope, peace, and national compassion during such critical periods is vital for overcoming the crisis.
In another letter signed by a number of Christian leaders, the Islamic Republic has been criticized for human rights violations and widespread suppression of citizens, and it has been emphasized that Iran, in order to achieve stability and progress, needs a transition to a free and democratic system.
A set of principles for Iran’s future has been presented in this statement, including the equality of all citizens before the law, the separation of religious institutions from government, freedom of speech and religion, the release of political and ideological prisoners, and the guarantee of people’s participation in determining the country’s political destiny.
The signatories have also welcomed efforts to create convergence among different political forces and have expressed support for the role of Prince Reza Pahlavi in attempting to facilitate a peaceful transfer of power.
Another aspect of this group’s activities relates to sending a letter addressed to Donald Trump, President of the United States. In this letter, the authors have appreciated the support that has been provided to the Iranian people so far and have asked the international community to stand by the Iranian nation.
The letter also states that international support can help create conditions in which Iranians can freely decide about their country’s political future. The authors of the letter have also expressed hope that Iran will become a country characterized by peace, stability, and freedom in the future.
These activists’ remarks come at a time when Iran’s Christian community has faced extensive restrictions over the past decades. Many organizations defending religious freedom have reported that Christian citizens in Iran have faced detention, interrogation, threats, and severe legal sentences.
Human rights activists have also repeatedly stated that some Christians have faced pressure solely because of their religious activities, participation in home gatherings, or the promotion of their beliefs. This situation has caused many Iranian Christians to resort to emigration to continue their lives and religious activities.
Despite these circumstances, Christian activists say that Iran’s Christian community remains part of the Iranian nation and wants to play a role in shaping a free and just future for the country.
At the end of this statement, it is stated that Iran’s future should be shaped on the basis of respect for human dignity and fundamental freedoms; a future in which all citizens, regardless of their religion or belief, enjoy equal rights.
According to these activists, the realization of religious freedom and the separation of religious institutions from government can create the groundwork for a society in which followers of different religions can live together in peace and mutual respect.
