44 Children Under 15 Years Old Gave Birth in Hamadan Last Year

The Director General of Civil Registration of Hamadan stated: Two percent of births in Hamadan Province are related to mothers under 15 years old, and 90 percent of mothers who gave birth in 2018 fall within the age group of 20 to 44 years, with the highest rate of births belonging to the age group of 25 to 29 years at 8.28 percent.

He added that 44 women under 15 years old gave birth in this province last year.

A gynecologist, obstetrician, and infertility specialist commented on this matter: Early marriages that lead to early pregnancies always carry the risk of complications. Particularly at young ages, the pelvic system and anatomy of reproductive organs have not yet reached full maturity, which may cause serious anatomical complications to the reproductive system.

Additionally, these children have not yet reached psychological maturity and have not completed adolescence, creating psychological and emotional problems for themselves and their newborns, as they lack the ability to care for an infant. A child whose body is still developing faces an increased risk of miscarriage during pregnancy. These mothers are themselves children and cannot adequately maintain their newborns’ health.

This specialist added: The best age for childbearing is between 20 and 30 years old.
