Empress Farah Pahlavi Called the 1979 Revolution the ‘Sedition of 22 Bahman’ in a Message

Farah Pahlavi, the wife of Iran’s former shah, issued a message on the eve of the forty-third anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, in which she referred to the 1979 revolution as the “Sedition of 22 Bahman.”
Based on a copy of the message obtained by Voice of America, Empress Farah Pahlavi, referring to Iran as going through “dark and unpleasant days,” stated: “All Iranians who carry the love of this ancient land in their hearts, all those who are familiar with the secret of Iran’s persistence and dignity throughout the centuries, and who wish for Iran to achieve glory, happiness and security, hand in hand with steadfastness and solidarity, take steps on the path to victory over darkness and hardship.”
At the end of this statement, she also expressed hope that “Iran will once again rise from its ashes like a phoenix. I know that the cold and dark days of winter are coming to an end and a delightful spring is on the way, and I believe that light will triumph over darkness.”
Empress Farah Pahlavi’s message was titled “On the Occasion of the Sedition of 22 Bahman 2537.”
In previous statements, Empress Farah Pahlavi used the solar Hijri calendar in her messages, but in this message she used the imperial calendar. The imperial calendar was approved in Iran in 1975 and implemented shortly after. This calendar placed the coronation date of Cyrus the Great, the Achaemenid king, as year one, and the coronation of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi in 1941 (solar Hijri) as the year 2500 of the imperial era. This calendar was replaced by the solar Hijri calendar after the Islamic Revolution of 1979.
