Global Silence in Face of Catastrophe, Urgent Need for Intervention in Al-Fasher

The Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) organization, in response to horrific crimes in Al-Fasher, has called for immediate intervention by the international community in this Sudanese city.

Recent reports on the horrific situation in Al-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state in Sudan, reveal a profound crisis that has not only challenged the local population but also questioned the integrity of the global conscience.

According to a statement by the Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) organization, it has called for immediate international intervention in response to “shocking reports of horrific crimes, arbitrary executions, and mass killings of civilians in Al-Fasher.” As CSW reports, after the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a powerful paramilitary group accused of widespread violence, claimed complete control of the city, conditions for civilians have deteriorated in an alarming manner.

General “Abdel Fattah al-Burhan,” commander of Sudan’s armed forces, confirmed the withdrawal of government forces from Al-Fasher. Following this withdrawal, communications were cut off, and released reports and images show evidence of arbitrary executions, mass graves, and targeting of women and girls by RSF forces.

CSW’s warning is explicit. “Mervyn Thomas,” the organization’s chief and founder, has described the images released from the city as “horrific,” stating regarding this situation that RSF forces are acting with complete impunity from punishment.

This situation is occurring within the context of a widespread war between Sudan’s government forces and the Sudan Armed Forces, a conflict that has lasted more than two years with civilians bearing the heaviest toll. Christian Solidarity Worldwide reports that during these clashes, civilians have faced catastrophes such as bombardment of residential areas, attacks on hospitals, loss of communications, and widespread displacement.

For example, in similar areas such as Darfur, the RSF has been accused of widespread use of sexual violence against women and girls, targeted executions, and ethnic cleansing.

According to CSW’s report dated October 28, 2025, following RSF’s announcement of capturing Al-Fasher, “images of RSF forces humiliating, torturing, or killing civilians have been released as part of the ruthless violence that civilians in Al-Fasher have endured over 18 months.

Furthermore, international specialized sources have confirmed that the RSF has intensified siege conditions by imposing a blockade and cutting off water and humanitarian aid, deepening the risk of genocide or ethnic cleansing.

From a human rights perspective, the situation in Al-Fasher is an example of one that has compelled international bodies such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) to intervene specifically.

For a society that, based on Christian teachings, believes in the values of human dignity, protection of the vulnerable, and the righteousness of justice, the realities of Al-Fasher are a cry to the global conscience. Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) warned in clear language that this is the voice that must be heard when silence or delay prevails: “RSF forces are acting with complete impunity from punishment.”

A call to Christian communities and churches to show compassion, to participate in amplifying the cries of the oppressed, and to assist humanitarian and justice-oriented movements is more necessary than ever today.
