Call for “Tuesdays of Protest Against Executions”

Residents of Frankfurt will hold a rally titled “Tuesdays of Protest Against Executions” on the current day.
This week, the city of Frankfurt will once again witness the holding of another protest gathering within the framework of the global campaign “No to Executions.” Iranian and non-Iranian activists and freedom advocates are scheduled to gather today, Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at 5 PM in Hauptwache Square to once again declare their opposition to the Islamic Republic’s systematic policy of issuing and carrying out death sentences.
The main focus of this gathering will be on the danger of execution facing four female activists as well as the fate of political prisoners sentenced to death. The organizers emphasized that this gathering is not only a symbolic act of protest, but a voice for global solidarity with those who have stood against Iran’s repressive apparatus.
Execution is essentially nothing more than a “legalized form of state-sanctioned murder.” The Islamic Republic has demonstrated over decades that the use of this tool, far from serving justice, is a means of creating terror, eliminating opponents, and consolidating power. It is this very approach that elevates these gatherings beyond a mere protest movement and transforms them into a serious demand to end government violence.
There is no doubt that such protest actions outside of Iran, though on a limited scale, can make international public opinion more sensitive; however, a serious criticism is that such movements, if not transformed into a sustained network of political, media, and legal pressure, remain at risk of being forgotten and reduced to symbolic repetition. The struggle against execution requires a broader connection among Iranian civil society, human rights organizations, and European governments in order to increase the political cost for the Islamic Republic of carrying out this inhumane punishment.
The organizers’ clear call to all Iranians and freedom advocates is to convey through active participation in this gathering a unified and clear message: “No to Executions—No to the Islamic Republic”
