Tom McClintock: We Will Witness the Collapse of Iran’s Regime Next Year

Tom McClintock, a Republican member of the U.S. Congress, predicted the collapse of Iran’s regime within the next year.

Tom McClintock, a Republican member of the U.S. Congress, in response to a journalist’s question about “what should be the first action the Trump administration can take against the Islamic Republic when it begins on January 20th?” said: “Maximum pressure against the regime, and it should start by enforcing sanctions that the current U.S. administration allowed to become ineffective.

In my view, with the collapse of the dictatorship in Syria, which was the result of Hezbollah’s removal and the proper use by the Israeli government of available resources to neutralize the agents of the Islamic Republic’s dictatorship, everything is moving toward the collapse of that regime. I know that the Iranian people are in their final days of tolerance as these thugs constantly give them orders, and in my opinion, within the next year we will witness the collapse of that regime and power will reach the Iranian people.”

The journalist, while pointing to the maximum pressure that Trump had previously applied against Iran, emphasized that at that time there was neither a war between Russia and Ukraine nor Israel in a state of war, and asked McClintock whether Trump can simply restore that policy or if it needs updating and what should be done. McClintock added: “As I said, in my view the Iranian regime still appears the same from the outside, but is completely rotten from within and awaits the first serious wind to collapse. I believe the conditions are moving in this direction and a blow will be struck within the next year that will end this regime.”

The journalist also, while emphasizing that the efforts of women and girls in Iran to enjoy civil rights continue, asked: “What would be the best foreign policy for the U.S. government toward these efforts by the Iranian people?”

Tom McClintock responded to this question by saying: “I repeat again, maximum pressure against the regime. I believe we should provide material support to opponents within Iran. There was a time when we gave large sums of cash to ruling elites, perhaps the time has come to give the money to Iranian opponents so they can remove their oppressors.”
