Political Prisoner Narges Mohammadi Diagnosed with Cancer

“Narges Mohammadi,” political prisoner and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, has been diagnosed with cancer.
“Mostafa Nili,” the lawyer defending Narges Mohammadi, announced her cancer diagnosis. He published a message on the social network X last night on November 4 (13th of Aban) and wrote: “Initial tests indicate the presence of a bone lesion in the area of the right shin of Narges Mohammadi, and according to the MRI results performed, this lesion is suspected to be cancerous. To investigate and determine whether it is malignant or not, a surgical biopsy is required, which must be performed as soon as possible.”
Narges Mohammadi’s lawyer also added about her condition: “Narges, in addition to the lesion suspected of cancer, is also suffering from several other illnesses and physical ailments, including the progression of arthritis, disc disease, and digestive problems.”
52-year-old Narges Mohammadi, the Nobel Peace Prize winner who has spent more than ten years in prison, has been sentenced to a total of more than 36 years in prison. Furthermore, the judicial authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran have opened new cases against her during her imprisonment and have issued new sentences against her.
“Taghi Rahmani,” the husband of Narges Mohammadi, wrote on his personal Instagram page last week on October 27 (6th of Aban), in addition to announcing news of her illness: “Narges Mohammadi, with the support of civil rights and human rights activists, under pressure from the international community and media, has been transferred to a hospital.”
In addition to criticizing the officials and authorities of the Islamic Republic, he continued: “This 9-week delay and the long years of enduring imprisonment have caused serious damage to Narges’ health and life, which requires a period of treatment and serious care.”
Her family also, in response to their daughter’s serious condition, said last week: “Finally, after 9 weeks, Narges was transferred to a hospital in Tehran due to multiple physical problems and was then transferred back to prison.”
