Legal Proceedings Against Instagram Admin for Encouraging Dancing in Tourism Tour
An Instagram administrator has been subject to legal proceedings for encouraging dancing during a tourism tour.
The judiciary of Kerman Province announced legal action against an Instagram administrator whose actions have been described as “norm-breaking.”
According to reports published by the Kerman Province judiciary’s media center on Tuesday, November 8, an Instagram administrator has been placed under legal prosecution for advertising on Instagram and encouraging dancing in a tourism tour, which is considered norm-breaking advertising under the law.
According to Kerman judiciary officials, this administrator, through his activity on the Instagram social network, encourages audiences to “consume alcohol” and “mixed dancing” during a tourism tour.
Majid Daneshi, the deputy prosecutor for cyberspace at the Kerman Prosecutor’s Office, referring to these advertisements which he described as vulgar, stated: “Legal action will be taken against individuals who, disregarding moral values and legal principles of tourism, seek vulgarity in cyberspace and reality through the implementation of such tours.”
Activities or advertisements considered “norm-breaking” under the laws of the Islamic Republic, where the advertiser is also considered a criminal, are not considered crimes from a human rights perspective in many countries; however, legal proceedings by judicial authorities in these cases reflect violations of freedom of expression and individuals’ right to choose their lifestyle.
